Three Lancia Beta Coupes For $1,200 Jim Motavalli It's rare to see even one Lancia Beta coupe, but this vendor in Gardendale, Texas has put three of them for sale as a package on Craigslist. The "bundle deal" is a mere $1,200, and you'd be nuts to only take one of them for $650. It's a treasure-trove of parts.

Produced exclusively in 1984, this Beta Coupé Volumex VX was Lancia's front-engined, front-wheel drive, two-door compact coupé, designed to compete with the exploding hot hatch market of the period. Fitted with a supercharged 2-litre, 8v, four-cylinder engine producing 136bhp, the Volumex reached 62 mph in 9. 0 seconds on its way to 124mph.

Fiat backing finally gave Lancia the resources to develop an all-new range, launched 50 years ago as the Beta Berlina. Lancia did the coupé job properly: this was no cut-down saloon. It boasted its own chic styling (created in-house by Aldo Castagno and Piero Castagnero) and no panels were shared with the Berlina.

A handsome front wheel drive 2+2 Coupe, it was styled in-house at Lancia's Turin design studio and was powered by the same Aurelio Lampredi dual overhead camshaft inline four cylinder engine used by the rest of the Beta range. In Group 4 rally trim, the Beta Coupe supported the Stratos and helped deliver World Championships Lancia's way in.

The Lancia Beta Montecarlo is seen here leading Group 5 racers from BMW and Ferrari. During this period, sports car racing was divided in six "groups," with Group 1 through 5 covering production-based machinery and Group 6 purpose-built prototypes. The regulations allowed for an ever greater degree of freedom, with Group 5 requiring little.

This 1979 Lancia Beta Coupe 2000 (chassis 828BC1610494) appears to be one of the best examples we've seen in a long time, and according to the seller it's been through a six-year restoration that included virtually every aspect of its construction, both mechanical and cosmetic.
